Guiness - Alive Inside - Champion - No Heaven
All around it's a pretty good spot. It definitely grabbed my attention, one of those wasn't-actually-looking-at-the-TV moments and looked up because the music very quickly caught my ear. I checked out the rest of the album "Chill 'em All", the unlikely conclusion is that of dipping into the various waters of electronic music. Who knew?

Sony Playstation - Network - Her Space Holiday - Pass It On
It's funny because Her Space Holiday used to sing distressed songs about girls and drug abuse. I was shocked to learn that this track was a product of theirs. Who knew? It's nice to know they could cheer up and even want to pass it on. Happy to hear it.
This song will become available in 2009 on the EP "Boys And Girls".

Gaultier - Madame - Miss Kittin - 3ème Sexe
Miss Kittin can pretty much reinvent herself and remain on the tip of style whenever she likes. I rarely hear a track of her's that doesn't perk up my ears. Always a pleasure.

Sony PSP - USA Plays PSP
As usual, PSP has got it down pat. Three new ads with 3 fresh tracks. Someone on YouTube made life easy by throwing all 3 in to one video. The songs are as follows:

CHI Plays PSP: The Ponys - Trouble Trouble

Zappos - Put A Little Zappos In Your Life - Donavon Frankenreiter - Free
The animation is super fun, almost kind of Song of the South in a more urban scenario, very much dig it. And with the aid of chill surfer guy sand-songster Jack Johnson, Donovan Frankenreiter is paralleled perfectly with this cartooned commercial. Enjoy.

Windows/Vista - The Mojave Experiment - The Ruby Suns - Oh Mojave
When Seinfeld was doing those spots with Bill Gates, they were awesome. This, eh, not so much, but I still think the music is fun and yes it does lead us to an interesting band, The Ruby Suns. So, thanks for that Windows or Bill, which/whoever.

Levi's - Live Unbuttoned - Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan - (Do You Wanna) Come Walk With Me?
This ad seems to cause a lot of "jibber-jabber" on YouTube. People do lie, but most people don't repeal so many lies so quickly right after lying, at I least I didn't think they did. As Fugazi put it, "it's not what they're selling, it's what you're buying". Wise words.

Microsoft/Zunes - Zunespass - 1. Common & Pharrell - Universal Mind Control 2. Afrikka Bambatta - Planet Rock
Common having evolved from Common Sense does help to explain his uniqueness, ability to redefine himself and come back with another hot track, as common sense really isn't that common at all. It's also never a surprise to learn that Pharrell is behind what's droppin'. Always choice. And of course, without Afirka Bambaataa where would electro-clash, dance rock, Missy Elliot, Beck (and the list goes on) be? He is the man, but where would Afrika Bambaataa be without Kraftwerk and Kraftwerk without CAN and CAN without Lamonte Young and Lamonte Young without Erik Satie.... Guess we'll never know where the seed was originally planted, but it's nice to know it's fruit bears endlessly : )

Southern Comfort - Soco & Lime - The Lodge - Suspended Moment
Normally I'm not interested in posting originals, yet this ad displays that some of the music houses out there are really stepping it up. The Lodge, an outfit in NYC, managed to pull this off. I honestly would never have guessed this was original music. Anyway, looks like we'll have be checking back in with The Lodge on occassion to make sure we're completely in the know.

State Farm - NFL Sunday Football - Nancy & Frank Sinatra - Feelin' Kinda Sunday
No I'm not really a sports person or at least not the typical sports fan. With that stated, this ad is great no matter what fan anyone might be for anything. "Feelin' Kinda Sunday" is such an easily understood idea considering I'm writing on a dreary Sunday afternoon and well there's nothing else I would be doing right now, I definitely am feelin' kinda Sunday. Yet it can encapsulate so many familiar feelings of course also easily lending itself to Sunday football. Go team!

Nike - Nike Basketball - Cornershop - Candyman
Nike never disappoints and this spot is no exception. Great concept, well conceived and they always use such georgeous film stock. Then just as the whip cream has been laid down, luring you in, the musical cherry lands and sweet perfection is served.

Dentyne - Make Face Time - Coconut Records - Summer Day
Ah... such a nice song and although it appears the theme of this song is that rain may be on the way they have given that perfect touch of what a summer day feels like, light and breezy, silly and simple, quirky and too quickly over. The ad is cute too, but I'm not really a gum chewer.

Snuggie!
Yes. You're right. This has nothing to do with the music in the commercial, although in it's classic infomercial manner the music is barnone. I've never been more enticed to become a red Obi Wan Kenobi. It's so great, a glorified red fleece monk's robe. Also, do read the comments on YouTube's page as some of the takes there are pretty right on. You too can become a monk family!
You wanna keep warm when you're feeling chilled, but you don't wanna raise your heating bill... ! Hegads! It's Snuggie!

Esurance - Eco Friendly - Cloud Cult - Lucky Today
Here's a very interesting brand-artist pairing. Esurance, a direct to consumer auto insurance company, has gone out of their way to advertise for the group Cloud Cult a hyper green body themselves even to the extent to be on a not-for-profit environmental record label, Earthology Records. Pretty nice, I may have to get in touch with them. Even cooler is that Esurance and Cloud Cult are offering 3 free downloads including "Lucky Today" here: http://www.esurance.com/cloudcult/ I am in the hope this is an example of what the future has to offer us in marketing and music and for anything for that matter.

Rocawear - 99 - Jay-Z - I Know
It is not surprising that Jay-Z would feature his own track in a product for his own brand's cologne. Either way, Pharrell makes hot beats and that's that. Oh and Tarah Rodgers is pretty easy on the eyes, too.

Xbox 360 - Live The Moment - Robot Repair - Lights Go On
This series is pretty fun, kind of creepy but I think that more reveals a certain predilection of the viewer including the possibility of being on something, huh? Maybe?? Anyway. It's diggable and the scoop is that Robot Repair is a 4 dude crew-music house-team-art project kinda thang and my best guess is this song was created for the spot. You can check out a bunch of their various musical ventures on imeem.

Toyota - 0% APR - The Fixx - Saved By Zero (cover)
Now, the reason this ad is here has nothing to do with how amazingly it was conceived or its equally impressive execution, no no. It is more to let you hear the original version by The Fixx. "One Thing Leads To Another", their best known 80s hit and "Saved By Zero" were both singles from their album Reach the Beach. With that in mind it is not a big surprise that we are now being haunted by Zero. Oh how it does get into your head.

Rhapsody - Bubble - 1. Kraak & Smaak - Squeeze Me 2. David Bowie - Sound & Vison
How cool would that be jumping off a building from bubble to bubble surrounded by sourceless tunes. Ah, the places we would go. Well, I suppose we do travel in our own music-spheres wrapped in our headphones or bumpin' some in cars. Bubbles are cooler. I also recommend the Sea & Cake's cover of Sound & Vision.

Target - 2 Day Sale - The Go! Team - We Just Won't Be Defeated
You may recall this ad from a year ago around the same time of year. This year's spot hasn't been posted yet so I grabbed the spot from last year and at that, embedding has been disallowed (my tech skills are only so good as to hack it out either) but here's the link. Xbox 360 - Gears of War 2 - DeVotchKa - How It Ends
This one has also been around for a little too. Their juxapositions are marvelous though and you may be familiar with the sounds of DeVotchKa from the film "Little Miss Sunshine". Along with Mychael Danna, DeVotchKa are responsible for the majority of that soundtrack. Pretty great stuff.

I have to admit this commercial does little to nothing for me, but the music... pretty cool. Reminds me of either The Real Tuesday Weld and/or imonster. Either way, check the full song below. EA - Mirror's Edge - Lisa Miskovsky - Still Alive
Apparently, Electronic Arts (EA) is taking their release of Mirror's Edge pretty seriously. Lisa Miskovsky is a Swedish pop star and she released 6+ remix versions of this song by such fun dance-party-song-generators as Junkie XL, Teddybears, Paul van Dyk and of course Benny Benassi. There's umpteen versions of this you can order/download from Amazon. I don't see how revolutionary we can get here. I know of too many producers, creatives and music supervisors who all have this dream of reshaping the idea of music and it's dashing entrance into the world of modern media/technology. Have fun!

Heineken - Beertender - Walter Meego - Forever
I'm just getting started so pardon if there are a few (many) repeats; alas, it is bound to happen. But I want it all here in once place. Anyway, I like robots and I dig this song so this = a good commercial. And so also why not include the ad and the full length of the video, which is pretty cool & psychadelic, for this song, all still =ing fun...
Dell - Kira Willey - Colors
This seemed a good one to start with. It's the simple yet classic idea of using colors as for the concept. Nice song, simple ad, good companions.
TV Commercials: The Current Radio
It is long overdue for a blog like this. It is to inform all those thirsty TV viewers the answers to the neverending questions of "Hey, what was the music on that last ad?!?" I imagine there may be another somewhere out there, yet since I haven't come across it. I'm going for it. And off we go....
